KonMari Method / ADHD

Marie Kondo is a Japanese author and consultant who inspired millions of people with her best-seller ‘The life-changing magic of tidying up’ (2011). She developed the simple and effective KonMari MethodTM that helps people around the world to organize their homes once and for all.

Her secret to successful tidying is to keep only the items that spark joy, tidy by category not by location and to follow the right order:

  1. Clothes
  2. Books
  3. Papers
  4. Komono (miscellany)
  5. Sentimental items

Marie Kondo has been so popular transforming other people’s homes into places of beauty, peace and inspiration, in January 2019 she started her own Netflix reality show.

Anna is a Certified KonMariTM Consultant and is authorized to apply the KonMari MethodTM during her in-home organizing sessions.

What is ADHD?

ADHD coaching

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurological condition that impacts the brain’s executive functions needed to assess, plan, and execute life.

The symptoms include inattention (not being able to focus), hyperactivity (excess movement that is not fitting to the setting) and impulsivity (hasty acts that occur in the moment without thought). While many people may experience these traits to some extent, people with ADHD experience them to a degree that interferes with daily living.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approximately 11% of children and almost 5% of adults are impacted by ADHD in the United States.

Typical ADHD symptoms

Adult symptoms are sometimes manifesting themselves in a different way than they do in children, where there is a clear list of signs defining the inattentiveness and the hyperactivity / impulsiveness ADHD types.

For adults, typical signs are:

o The inability to focus and prioritize
o Lack of organization
o Poor memory and forgetfulness
o Restlessness and impatience
o Mood swings, irritability and a quick temper

If you believe you or your children have ADHD, please contact your doctor or psychiatrist.

Causes and treatment of ADHD

The exact cause of ADHD is not fully understood. However, research shows that there is a genetic component. Studies have also revealed differences in the brains of people with ADHD and an imbalance in the level of neurotransmitters. Certain groups are also believed to be more at risk, such as people who were born prematurely or with low birthweight, with epilepsy and brain damage.

Adults with ADHD can be treated with medication, psychotherapy and natural strategies such as nutrition, exercise, meditation and ways to increase structure and organization.

Organizing Geneva can help you make positive lifestyle changes and learn new skills to reduce your ADHD symptoms through specifically tailored time and space organizing sessions.
